REQUIEM PREMIERE!
"An American Requiem for the common man" premiered Palm Sunday, March 24, 2002 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in
Evansville, Indiana to a most appreciative audience.
The fine voices of St. Paul's Episcopal Church Choir were greatly complimented by soloists Anne Geissinger, Joseph Hopkins,
and Todd Howard. The ensemble was led masterfully by conductor Benjamin F. Boyer in the memorable and emotionally spiritual
performance.
Although an unusual combination of instruments was used for this work, the resulting timbre was most pleasing to
the ear. All of the instrumentalists were consumate soloists in their own right.
It was a fitting climax to a journey by the composers that began in July 2000 when they decided to write a Requiem that
would be by Americans for Americans: One that combined the "Spirit" of the people of the United States of
America with the ancient form of the Requiem Mass. Since it was extremely important to the Noon's that the words could
be easily understood by all who heard it as well as sung it, they chose to translate it from the more commonly used
Latin to English. It is their hope that those who hear will be blessed.
